Care of leather

Our leather trousers have the undisputed advantage that, when washed with our leather wash lotion, they only occasionally need to be washed.
The frequency of washing entirely depends upon the usage of the trousers. For a pair of trousers used only for special occasions, we recommend washing only once every 2 - 3 years. However, when frequently worn for riding, shooting or work around the house a wash twice a year might be necessary. General dirt and patches can usually be removed with our special brush. Leather used in our products has a life expectancy of 10-12 washes, when following our instructions.

It is not necessary to impregnate after washing and before wearing for the first time.

„designed to live longer than their owners“

Depending upon the finish, different methods of care are advised.

  • Never treat leather with harsh solvents, e.g. acetone, petrol or nail varnish remover!
  • Leather can be very sensitive to light. Therefore, protect against intensive light exposure (for example, do not leave articles in a hot car).
  • It is advised to dry damp leather trousers at normal room temperature - neither in the sun nor near to a radiator. (Otherwise the leather will become hard). Follow washing instructions!
  • Leather needs to breathe and therefore should be stored suitably in an airy and dry place. Never store in a damp cellar or in plastic bags (this leads to patches on the material).
  • Treat raindrops depending upon the area of the leather. With suede it is necessary to carefully brush the suede fibres in the opposite direction.
  • Dust. For suede leather, use a soft brush; for nubuk leather, use a slightly harder brush and carefully brush in the direction of the fibres. Never use a towel or hands.
  • Glue. Certain types of glue can be removed with soft pencil rubbers. Beware! Not suitable for all types of leather.
  • Biros. Damage caused by biros can be reduced. Place a piece of sellotape over the effected area and press hard. Remove the sellotape and rub the remaining mark over with a lava-like stone. Never rub the biro mark with a cleaning substance in a circular direction. Only rub in lined direction. This works best with suede or nubuk leather. Unfortunately this doesn`t usually help with smooth leather.
  • Greasy patches. Fresh greasy patches can be removed with chalk dust or magnesium and be sucked up out of the material. Put either of these substances on the effected area and leave for at least 12 hours. Then very carefully brush the dust away. Genuine greasy patches often disappear after a certain period of time by themselves. (The leather absorbs the grease).
