Riding jeans made out of leather are a great thing – but how do they look when they show signs of horse sweat, muck and saddle oil. The editorial staff decided to have a closer look and, at a rather high price of 259 Euros, put the riding jeans from "Hand & Werk" to the test. The jeans, made out of soft nubuk leather, are available in brown, olive or black and are sold accordingly to the purchaser`s measurements in men`s and women`s sizes. Obviously the annoying places (especially the knee) where soreness can occur have no rubbing seam.

The notably rather thick and high quality leather appears to make the trousers seem quite heavy and, of course, for the winter it gives a practical factor of warmth. The trousers have to worn in for two days to allow the body shape to adjust to the measurements. Then the extra length on the legs can be set and simply stuck with glue without sewing.

For six weeks the trousers were artificially covered in dirt and given a lot of hard wear. Then brushed over with the fine, brass brush (available at Hand & Werk) and after another treatment of mud, put in the washing machine (using special leather wash lotion). This is not a something to take for granted with leather trousers! These riding trousers, however, are machine-washable. The pair of test jeans was put through this process with five separate washing programmes - which in fact can be compared with five years normal wear. The result ... the leather acquired a nice finish, without any damage or dried out areas and without losing the smooth touch. We came to the conclusion that it is worth investing in a high quality product, made out of good leather, which passes the hardest test and can realistically last for ten years. This would result in a calculation of 25.90 Euros per year - you can`t get cheaper than that!

Interesting points were the leather-lined pockets and the double waistband, also made out of strong yet soft leather which prevent the trousers wearing out too quickly.
