- Leather is not a material that comes automatically processed from a factory. It is a product that has come from a living animal. The coupon is the strongest and most valuable part of a hide (suitable for the making of shoes, bags and our trousers).
- The neck and flank sections can be recognized by the grooves and creases. They are too tough and aren`t suitable for clothing (good for belts, lining, etc). These pieces are often used for the cheaper articles of clothing.
The process of a piece of cowhide departing from the slaughter house to a soft suede garment in the Dannecker Collection is not as simple as one might think. Using traditional methods of production, combined with modern technology, we aim to present our customers with an article of clothing of the highest quality.

The steps in the tanning process are as follows:
- Softening. This results in the raw hide being separated from the
remains of dirt and salt.
- Salting/liming. The tissues, flesh and fat remains are removed.
- Singeing. The hair is removed from the hide.
- Tanning. The tannic acid is added, which results in the extraction of the tissue fibres. After this process, the term leather is used rather than cowhide.
- Currying. The tanned hides are pressed and stretched to extract liquid.
- Drying/Finishing. Now the hides are hung and dried. The length of this process determines to some extent the softness of the leather.
